My name is Patrick Berger, and I have the privilege of serving as the Apprenticeship Coordinator at Steyr Arms.

My professional journey started with an apprenticeship as a production technician, which laid the foundation for my career. Subsequently, I pursued and successfully completed a master craftsman qualification in mechanical engineering and industrial technology. Today, I am entrusted with responsibilities in both apprenticeship training and production planning and control at Steyr Arms.

My primary objective is to support young individuals as they embark on their apprenticeships, ensuring a smooth and successful transition into their professional careers. Throughout their training, I am committed to being a reliable point of contact and a source of guidance for our future specialists. I firmly believe that the comprehensive training we offer, which combines vocational education, hands-on experience in our training workshop at Steyr Automotive, and practical exposure within our company, provides an exceptional foundation for a successful career.

DOUBLE APPRENTICESHIP as a “WAFFENMECHANIKER/IN” aND “ZERSPANUNGSTECHNIKER/IN”

At STEYR ARMS, we offer the opportunity to complete a dual apprenticeship. Our apprentices are qualified as “Waffenmechaniker/in” als auch als “Zerspanungstechniker/in”. The aim is to prepare them to manufacture complex weapons and precision components that meet the highest quality standards.

How much do I earn as an apprentice at STEYR ARMS?

The apprentice salary valid from November 1, 2023 according to the collective agreement in the iron and metal producing and processing industry is:
1st year of apprenticeship € 1,000.00
2nd year of apprenticeship € 1,182.65
3rd year of apprenticeship € 1,546.13
4th year of apprenticeship € 2,028.95

What are the working hours during the apprenticeship?

During the apprenticeship period and based on public transportation: Mon. – Fri. 06:30 – 12:00 and 12:30 – 15:00

Are there any discounts or bonuses?

Special achievements also deserve special rewards! That’s why you get an extra day of vacation and a bonus for a good result on your report card

Is the vocational school blocked or spread over the whole year?

The vocational school is attended in 4 blocks of 10 weeks each and one block of 5 weeks

How long does the apprenticeship last?

The duration of the dual apprenticeship is 4 years

Am I allowed to shoot with a firearm during my training?

Yes, starting in the 3rd year of your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to test fire the weapons we produce in the shooting range as part of your training. This will be done under supervision and with all necessary safety precautions.

What happens after I complete my apprenticeship?

After your apprenticeship, you will be employed as a skilled worker in a wide variety of departments, depending on the qualifications you have acquired. Many of our current skilled workers are former apprentices who started their career at STEYR ARMS directly after completing their apprenticeship
